Great homemade facial scrub - Easy and Fast

There are several reasons to use a face scrub as a part of your skincare routine.

1. Scrubs work by removing dead skin, leaving behind a layer of younger, healthier skin behind.

2. Regular use of an exfoliant can keep skin smooth and glowing, by constantly exposing new skin.

3. Use of a face scrub can also remove lingering facial makeup which may not have been totally cleaned earlier.

4. It leaves a much smoother surface for makeup applications.

Most of the time I tend to use homemade ones:

3 simple ingredients:

1. 1 tbsp of Sugar in a bowl

2. 1/2 tsp of Milk, add it to the sugar

3. Add to the mix 1/4 tsp of Jojoba oil or if you don't have any try olive oil, almond oil, grapeseed oil(a few drops)

That's it, simple mix all the ingredients together and use it right away. Cleanse your face first, apply the scrub to your face while moist and rub gently in circular motions.

Rinse after about 1 min, do scrub gently though, your face isn't that dirty.

BEST Foundation EVER - luminous silk foundation by Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

Luminous silk foundation by Giorgio Armani Cosmetics

One of my girlfriends introduced me to this foundation. She raved about how wonderful it is. Since this is not a cheap product, it took me some time to work myself up to purchasing this foundation.

It can be purchased at Holt Renfrew (not available at Sephora). I went to Holts and asked for samples of a few different shades. One that is matched to my skintone, one that is lighter and one that is darker. I always recommend that you do this if you can before purchasing a new foundation, this way you can take the foundation home and see how it looks on your skin under different lighting.

I have tried many many many foundations in the past, from drugstore brands to high end brands. After trying this foundation, I fell in love with it. It is by far THE best foundation I've ever used on myself and clients.

I've used this foundation along with the my favorite La Mer powder on a bride recently for her wedding day. The result was amazing, it gave her that beautiful glow, and she barely needed any touch up through out the day. This product for me is worth every penny.

It has medium coverage, it is super long lasting, and so blendable. It glides on to the skin like cashmere. I apply it with my MAC 130 dual fiber brush and the result is flawless skin.

I have normal - combination skin, I don't know how this product would be for sensitive skin or acne prone skin. I purchased shade 4.5(lighter) and 5.5(darker), I mix the two together in different part to match my skin tone. No one is the same shade throughout the year since we are all paler in the winter and tan in the summer. With two foundations you can customize your shade throughout the year and tweak the foundations to match your skintone perfectly.

Since I've tried it, I have recommended this product to others. Everyone and anyone who's tried it also loves it.

Go get a sample and give it try, you might love it too.

Bags Bags Bags and oh Jewelery by MY FAVOURITE TORONTO DESIGNER JENNY BIRD. Please support your local Designer!

Follow my blog with bloglovin
Its all about Jenny Bird! I love her stuff. She is a Toronto-based bag and jewelery designer that has been gaining press in the international fashion scene. Her designs have been seen on Gossip Girl (xoxo) and worn by fashionistas such as The City's Whitney Port. Just recently her creations have been purchased by the high-end Canadian department store Holt Renfrew and the premier online shopping boutique Shopbop.com.

In my opinion, I would describe her designs as modern chic with a vintage twist.

It is actually interesting how I met her. My husband and I bought a pair of stadium lights on craigslist for our new loft about a year ago(love craigslist) and we arranged to pick these lights up in person. The sellers of these lights were Jenny and her husband, we got chatting and she told me about her designs. I went on her website shortly after and rest was history.

These are the first two bags I purchase from her: The Deco Shoulder Bag and The Black Signature Leather Clutch (The clutch has attachable chains that turns it into a shoulder bag). I don't think these bags are available anymore.

Vintage Chainstrap Clutch

This bag was spotted on Whitney Port at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Miami. I love how you can slide your hand into the gold chain strap detailing.

Leather and Chain Lariat

Every time I wear the leather and chain lariat, someone always asks me where I got it from. It is one of those pieces that goes with everything, and adds a little something extra to a simple outfit.

Cobra Lariat and Serpent necklace worn together

My favourite earrings from her(from left to right): Shoulder Sweepers, St Regis Door Knockers and gold glam petal earrings

Pop of Colour

This was a quick and easy look to do with a bright colour. I chose purple, but you can do this with blue or green.

Foundation used: Luminous silk foundation by Giorgio Armani

Powder: La mer Powder

Concealer: Studio Fix

Brows: Anastasia Brow Wix in Brunette set with Brow Powder Duo in Brunette.

For the eyes:

1. MAC paintpot in Painterly as my base

2. Overall wash of colour with MAC e/s Blanc Type

3. Tight line the eyes with Makeup forever aqua eyes eyeliner in 0L(black), line the eyelid with MAC black track and wing the liner out.

4. I used a purple pigment mixed with mixing medium and lined on top of the black track. You can use a eyeshadow as well, using a mixing medium makes the colour more vivid and intense.

Lips: MAC shy girl lipstick.

My favourite sunscreen for face, whats yours?

With all the sun we have been getting lately, it reminded me to blog about my favourite sunscreen. It is the BIENFAIT MULTI-VITAL SPF 30 LOTION by Lancome. It is a Daily Moisturizing Lotion enriched with vitamins plus full spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 Suncreen. I have used this product on my face during the day for about 2 years now and I love it.

Why I love it:

1. It is super light weight, which makes it perfect to use under makeup. The texture feels just like face cream.

2. It is moisturizing (I have combination skin), non-greasy and doesn't leave a film on my skin.

3. It 's not strongly scented.

4. It is SPF 30, which is the recommened minimum SPF protection we should be wearing.

5. Some sunscreen can leave a white almost mask like layer on your skin (anything that contains titanium dioxide and zinc oxide), and the white cast is even more pronounced on photography. This one doesn't. It really just behaves like a face lotion would.

You can get this product at Sephora for sure. You can probably purchase this from Lancome counters at The Bay, Sears and Shoppers Drug Mart.

Give it a try and tell me what you think. Leave me comments if you've tried other ones that are good as well.

Creme De Lamer Face Powder

I've tried the Creme De La Mer Moisturizing cream before, and I have to say, I didn't like the so called Miracle cream. It was too heavy and actually gave me breakouts, and I don't have acne prone skin.

A little while ago I heard good reviews on the Creme De Lame Face powder and decided to give it a try. It comes in a supersized jar that contains 25g/0.88oz of powder.

My colour is 01, this talc and mica based powder is very light, soft and finely milled. The enclosed puff is plush and soft. The powder is easily blended, sets the foundation with a matt finish without any cakey feeling on my skin.

I love this powder, and with the amount I still have left in the jar, it will probably last me for a couple of years. :)
